Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar to form new political party
Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar has publicly announced that she will form a new political party.
Claiming MGR’s legacy, Deepa went on to say mission will be launched on January 17th which marks the centenary celebrations of AIADMK Founder MG Ramachandran and expressed confidence that the AIADMK cadre would support her.
Addressing the hundreds of people who met her at T-Nagar residence, Deepa said “We are to begin a new journey. An announcement on it will come out soon”.
Deepa is the daughter of Jayakumar, the brother of Jayalalitha. Scores of people are gathering in front of Deepa’s house everyday and Deepa is waving the ‘two leaves’ symbol to them. Posters and banners had been erected in front of her house by her supporters with claims of Jayalalithaa legacy.
Nirmala of Deepa Peravai said “We are not attracted to Deepa not because she is a relative of Jayalalithaa. We want her to lead us since she has the capabilities. It is the wish of cadres. She is consulting senior functionaries of the AIADMK. She has assured to announce a good decision soon. We are expecting it eagerly.”
Meanwhile, Sasikala Natarajan take charge as general secretary of AIADMK Saturday morning at the party’s head office in Chennai. Sasikala was elected unanimously to the position of AIADMK’s General Secretary, by a resolution passed in the party’s council.
