Gautamiputra Satakarni Review
Gautamiputra Satakarni(Balakrishna) is the crown prince of Satavahana dynasty. Satakarni who rules with the capital Amaravati, decides to bring different kingdoms under single Satavahana rule. In the process he wins over 29 kingdoms. Meanwhile a greek emperor, Demetrius(Kabir Bedi) plots to invade India to achieve the dream of Alexander conquering the entire globe. Will Satakarni save nation from him. What kind of problems does Satakarni face with his mother Gautami Balasri(Hema Malini) and wife Vashishti Devi(Shriya Saran) form the rest of the story.
Nandamuri Balakrishna steals the show by giving an astounding performance from frame one. He shined as the ruthless emperor going a humanitarian transformation and this is his best acting in recent times. Balakrishna looked old but his performance as the ruthless emperor provides a feast for the NBK fan’s eye. GPSK will surely be a talked about one for years for Nandamuri fans. Shriya Saran does a decent justice for her role. Bollywood Dream girl Hema Malini shines in her short but significant role. Kabir Bedi is impressive as Demtrius.
Krish deserves appreciation for taking up this historical drama. He proved his mettle again by narrating an intriguing plot with racy screenplay. The first half of the film is very racy. The film is a tad lengthy in the second half. Music by Chirantan Bhatt is another asset for the movie. The background score is terrific in parts. The dialogues penned by Sai Madhav Burra are really powerful. Cinematography by Gnana Shekar V.S is terrific. Though some VFX effects are not up to the mark, overall cinematography is beautiful. Editing should have been better, especially the war sequences. Production values are adequate.
